Victory State Bank Shares Advice For Business Owners In Midweek Panic
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- As Staten Island’s only community-based commercial bank, Victory State Bank knows the workweek for many business owners seems never-ending.
As a result, many entrepreneurs don’t look at a typical week in the same way non-business owners do. Running a business is a non-stop effort that often requires working through the weekend.
Midweek, some people see relaxation in the forecast, while business owner often face the challenge of a growing to-do list.
To help resolve entrepreneurial panic, we are sharing the following advice from a Staten Island-based business owner and public relations pro.
According to Barton Horowitz, president of Relevant Public Relations, Hump Day, the mid-week workday harbinger of every coming weekend, doesn’t exist for entrepreneurs.
“If you run your own business or professional practice, it’s more than likely that Wednesdays spur thoughts of how much more needs to be accomplished before the following Monday,” Horowitz says. “As John F. Kennedy once said, ‘The hour is late – but the agenda is long.’ And, he ran our nation!”
If you’ve been looking at weekends as an interruption, as opposed to a fulfilling departure from your workweek, it’s time to take stock of Wednesdays, says the PR/marketing expert.
Here are his five tips for taking best advantage of Hump Day:
1) VIEW WEDNESDAYS AS INPIRATIONAL
Remember that Wednesdays act as a positive spark for many workers, so share in their enthusiasm. If your employees look forward to and truly enjoy their weekends, they will be invigorated and more productive at work.
2) CONSIDER HUMP DAY AS A MARKETING OPPORTUNITY
By mid-week, most people are well over the shock of returning to work on Monday morning. You can take advantage of this boost in mood by reaching out to your client base.
Self-assign special tasks for Wednesdays. Seasoned business people know that schedules commonly change, but it’s healthy to assign at least a portion of one day each week to client cultivation and development. Either do it yourself, or touch base with a public relations/marketing professional who can help to boost your bottom line.
3) EMBRACE YOUR INDEPENDENCE
Remind yourself that it’s definitely OK to work on weekends – WHEN YOU NEED TO. This is a positive! After all, it’s a privilege to be the boss. Remind yourself of this; and embrace your independence.
4) REVIEW YOUR TASKS
Take a good look at what needs to be accomplished through the remainder of the week. If things seems to be on pace, make plans to enjoy the well-earned weekend break you deserve.
5) WRITE THINGS DOWN
If you are the type of entrepreneur who — like most of us — gives birth to great business ideas when out of the office and forgets them soon after, write everything down.
Carry a pad and pen with you at all times, and review what you’ve written in the environment of your workplace.
If your idea still looks good, incorporate it into your plans — and have Monday’s schedule prepared well in advance.
